Kyla Hughes and Jean-Luc Bastarache are U de M athletes of the week

Track and field athletes Kyla Hughes, of Cocagne, New Brunswick, and Jean-Luc Bastarache, of Truro, Nova Scotia, were chosen as Physiotherapy Sportmed athletes of the week for the period from March 4 to 10, 2019 by the Université de Moncton Athletic Department.

Jean-Luc Bastarache took the 7^th place in the heptathlon at the U SPORTS track and field competitions in Manitoba. He took the 12^th spot in 60 m (7.68s); 6^th in the high jump (6.29 m); 7^th in shot put (11.44 m); 10^th in the high jump (1.73 m); 10^th in 60m hurdles; 2^nd in the pole vault (4.15 m); and 3^rd in 1000 m (2m54s65). He accumulated 4499 points for his performances and two standings points. The Université de Moncton earned three team standing points, a first for many years. He is an electrical engineering student.

Kyla Hughes took 11^th spot in women shot put with a distance of 11.69 m in her only event of the competition. She is a kinesiology student.
