Two members of the Université de Moncton women’s hockey Aigles Bleues have been named to the U SPORTS team that will compete at the 29th Winter Universiade, to be held next week in Krasnoyarsk, Russia, from March 2nd to 12.

The Atlantic University Sport top scorer, Katryne Villeneuve, and the Aigles Bleues captain, Cassandra Labrie, have been named members of the Canadian U SPORTS team.

“I am very excited, and this is unbelievable,” said Cassandra Labrie. “As a youngster, I dreamt of playing one day for Team Canada and today, I get the chance to live that dream in university hockey. I did not think I would ever represent Canada this year, my last in university. I want to leave everything I have on the ice for Team Canada. I can’t wait to leave, even if getting ready for the trip makes me nervous.”

Katryne Villeneuve will represent Canada for the first time. “I attended the national team camp in Calgary, two years ago, and I said to myself I needed to go to represent my country at the Universiade,” Villeneuve said. “I am excited, and I will wear the Canadian jersey with pride. This is quite an accomplishment; it is a dream to play for Team Canada, to represent my country, U SPORTS and the Université de Moncton. I still have a hard time believing this. I look forward to the experience and try to live all moments. I will play at my best. It was an accomplishment to win the scoring title and I am happy to have achieved this.”
