Aigles Bleus Looking to Finish First Semester with .500 with Two Homes Games
The Dalhousie University Tigers (4-12-0=8 points, 7th position) will be the visitors on Friday evening, then it will be the St. Francis Xavier University X-Men's turn (9-6-2=20 points, 3rd position) on Saturday. Both these teams were able to get by the Aigles Bleus last weekend in Nova Scotia.
“These are two very important games and we managed our energy this week at practice to make sure we were ready for the weekend games,” said Moncton coach Judes Vallée. “There is a good possibility that two of the three injured defensemen could play this weekend, Alexandre Bernier and Olivier Desjardins. That could help us a lot. We lost against those two teams last week, so it is important for us to come out strong at the first whistle. The Friday game is essential against a lower classified team. We did have difficulty against these two teams, but I believe we have turned the page now. The defensive strategy will take over with back checks in the neutral zone to play the least possible in our zone and limit shots and goals.”
“Team members are aware of the importance of these two games because we are hungry for the four points,” added forward Marc-Anthony Therrien. “We want to get closer to StFX in the standings and finish the season strong. Victories will make the players happier and that will motivate us for the second semester. We need to control the puck well and keep within our game plan. The games should be very close, but we are capable of doing well to finish the first semester.” Therrien is a fourth and final year player. He says he is enjoying the university hockey experience and enjoys scoring more often. Chemistry on the ice between him and Maxime St-Cyr is helping the situation.
In brief, Étienne Montpetit will be the goaltender on Friday. Vincent Lanoue and Carl Marois will miss the games because of injuries. Maxime St-Cyr has a league leading 17 goals in 16 games and 71 shots on goal. He is fourth in the scoring race with 22 points, three less than UNB’s Christopher Clapperton in first place. Marc-Anthony Therrien has 21 points (9-12) and is 6th in the standings.
