Université de Moncton Soccer Teams Looking for Important Victories

The season of the Université de Moncton soccer teams could be played this weekend as they each have two games in Atlantic University Sport soccer action at Stade Moncton Stadium on Saturday and Sunday.

The women’s games are at 2 p.m. and the men’s at 4:15 p.m. on both days. The Mount Allison University Mounties, on Saturday, and the Acadia University Axewomen and Axemen, on Sunday, will be the visitors.

The women Aigles Bleues (1-6-0=3 points, 8th position) have lost their last two games, and with five games remaining in the regular schedule, they could have some difficulty qualifying for the playoffs. The team needs to finish top 6, and the UPEI Panthers are presently in that rank with eight points. The Mount Allison University Mounties (0-7-1=1 point, 10th position) have lost their last four games. The Acadia University Axewomen (6-0-1=19 points, 1st position) did finish with a tie in their last outing.

“These are two important games; we are aiming for six points,” indicated Moncton coach, Mehyar Zekaroui. “They will be two very different games. Saturday, we will play against the last-place team, and Sunday against the first-place team. We will not modify our principles; we will play with the same attitude and mentality. We need to go in the right direction to gain confidence.”

For their part, the Aigles Bleus (1-6-0=3 points, 9th position) still have hope in finishing in the top 6 and qualifying for the payoffs. Memorial, with six points, is presently sixth. The Mounties (0-8-0= 0 point, 9th position) will form the opposition on Saturday, and the Axemen (5-2-0=15 points, 4th position) on Sunday.

“We did continue our physical training during the two weeks of not playing a game,” Florian Ntima Nsiemi said. “Our season is being decided this weekend. We definitely want to improve from last season. We have opposing teams that we can win against. We need to play with heart and show a better team to our spectators.”

The public is invited to attend the games and to support their teams.
