Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (1-1-0=2 points) are hosting St. Francis Xavier University X-Men (0-0-2=2 points) in an Atlantic University Sport (AUS) men’s hockey game on Friday at 7 p.m. at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.

The team is looking forward to this outing after its last second loss, on Saturday, against the Reds. The team’s performance in the third period was looked at and motivated this week’s practice sessions.

“We will have a very good opposing team,” stated Moncton coach Judes Vallée. “We did win against them in a pre-season game on their ice, but this will be different. I believe the play will be intense. This week, we did discuss our Saturday loss in the third period. We have a lot of positive going for the team, like we have the top three AUS scorers and we have the best power play. We still have a number of things to improve, but the team’s maturity is getting better. We cannot lose any more games like we did on Saturday. Eliminating losing streaks will get us in the playoffs. This will be an important game.”

The coach did bring a few minor changes to the team. “We need to make sure we are strong mentally all through the game and to play a simplified game,” Vallée added. “We are taking steps to reduce the number of shots on goal against us. We had very good practices this week and we will be ready for Friday.”

The second-year player, Vincent Deslauriers, is second in AUS individual scoring statistics with two goals and three assists. “We are going to do what we need to win,” Deslauriers added. “This is our only game this week so we will go all out. The exhibition game win gave us confidence, and we will be in the game. We wish to reduce the number of shots on goal against us and to play better in our zone. We know we can score; now we need to play better defensively.”

In brief, three Aigles Bleus players are on top of the AUS scoring race after one week of play: Alexis Roy (1-5=6 points), Vincent Deslauriers (2-3=5 points) and Carl Marois (3-5=5 points). Étienne Montpetit and Joey Richard are still on the injured list. Alexi Thibaudeau will be in nets.

The game can be seen on AUStv.ca.
