Made possible through a substantial $40,000 donation from Michelin North America (Canada) Inc. to the major Evolution Fundraising Campaign of the Université de Moncton, the Michelin Room was officially dedicated this afternoon at the Faculty of Engineering.

This generous donation from Michelin North America (Canada) Inc. enabled the renovation and redesign of room 158-G2 in the Faculty.

“At the Université de Moncton, the student experience is one of our main priorities,” explained Jacques Paul Couturier, interim president and vice-chancellor of the Université de Moncton. “The Michelin Room is a tangible example of the benefits generated by the major Evolution Fundraising Campaign, and we are gratefully appreciative of the generosity of Michelin North America (Canada) Inc. In addition to strengthening our students’ connection to their Faculty, these new facilities will clearly set them up for even greater success in their engineering endeavours.”

The students in the Faculty of Engineering are highly active and involved when it comes to extracurricular activities and competitions. The main groups looking forward to using these state-of-the-art facilities include the concrete canoe team, the Université de Moncton Supermileage team, the IEEE team which takes part in international smart vehicle programming competitions, and the robotics team.

“Supporting the development of engineers in Atlantic Canada is key to our success as a company,” said Jeff MacLean, president of Michelin North America (Canada) Inc. “It’s important for us to have and enrich these types of programs at our local, world-class universities like the Université de Moncton. I hope the Michelin room will enhance and augment the student learning experience.”

In addition to enhancing the visibility of student teams and the Faculty, the Michelin room will provide students a highly secure space in which to store their tools, equipment and documentation.

“I couldn’t be happier to see that our students now have a new work space designed specifically to meet their needs,” stated Gilles Roy, dean of the Faculty of Engineering. “This room will no doubt help to drive their academic success as well as help them greatly enhance their skills in the areas of teamwork and project management.”
