Both Université de Moncton teams resume action this weekend with games on Friday evening on the road, and on Sunday at home in Atlantic University Sport soccer action.

The Aigles Bleues (0-2-0) and Aigles Bleus (0-2-0) will be in Wolfville on Friday to play the Acadia University Axewomen (2-0-0) and Axemen (2-0-0), at 5 p.m. and 7:15 p.m., respectively. Sunday at the Stade Moncton Stadium, the Saint Mary’s University Huskies (women: 0-2-0; men: 0-1-1) will be the visitors for the first home games of the season at 1 p.m. and 3:15 p.m., respectively.

“We play two weekend games, and we need to find our work point of reference,” said women’s coach, Mehyar Zekaroui. “We have offensive and defensive principles in place. We will concentrate on our performance. For our first home game on Sunday against Saint Mary’s, we know it will be a good battle. We did win games against them last season, but they can surprise us. We need to be cautious, disciplined and not to forget the details that could make the difference. We want to get into the win column and play well for our spectators.”

“We need to come back strong from our two losses of last weekend,” said defenceman Katryne LeBlanc. “We had very good discussions this week on our performance and we are on the right track. The AUS soccer is much more physical than what I was used to playing in Québec. I need to get a better understanding of my territory, have a positive impact on our play and pass the ball.”

The men’s team is also looking for its first win of the season, and coach Florian Ntima Nsiemi says both games are very important. “We need to win games,” said Ntima Nsiemi. “We must pay attention to the details and remain focused on the full 90 minutes. We can play with the Axemen, and we aim to cut their winning streak. Against Saint Mary’s, this is our first home game and we begin with a good base. We cannot accept a loss.”

“We are going to show the progression from the positive things that happened last weekend and defend our territory better,” said middle field player Youssouf Diabate. “We also need to be better on the offensive strategy. We have shown a progression since training camp, and we need to score more often in the coming games.”
