Both Université de Moncton, Moncton campus, soccer teams will be in Nova Scotia on Saturday and Sunday to begin action in the Atlantic University Sport 2018-2019 season.

The Aigles Bleues and Aigles Bleus will be in Antigonish Saturday at 1 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. to meet the St. Francis Xavier X-Women and X-Men. Sunday, they will be in Sydney at the same times against the Cape Breton University Capers. All games can be seen on AUStv.ca.

The challenges are many for the Moncton teams as they missed the playoffs by one point last season.

This is the fifth season for team captain Emilie Naugle of the Aigles Bleues. “I am excited, there is less stress in my final year, as I know the players,” Naugle said. “I look forward to the season and our qualifying for the playoffs. To get there, we need to concentrate on the details, on our attack and score goals.”

Coach Mehyar Zekaroui is looking forward to the first games as his team played seven exhibition games. “This is the moment of truth, our practices went well and the team is ready,” Zekaroui added. “We wish to continue our progression of the last two seasons and qualify for the playoffs.”

Saad Mersadi is the Aigles Bleus team captain. “I expect very good results this season; we are ready to battle and we will be competitive,” he mentioned. “We are ready with a very good group of players. The playoffs are in our vision, and we also want to go further. We need more wins than last season and to achieve this, we need to concentrate and work very, very hard.”

“We want to build on the success of last season and correct our errors from last season,” coach Florian Ntima Nsiemi said. “Our recruiting this season was very specific; we have talented young players and the inner competition should transform in victories on the field.”
