Université de Moncton grants over 950 diplomas in 2017-2018

The Université de Moncton granted 961 new diplomas and certificates at its three campuses in the 2017-2018 academic year.



On Saturday, May 26, over 500 graduates received their diploma at the Moncton campus ceremony held in the stadium at the Louis-J.-Robichaud CEPS.



During the ceremony, Annette Boudreau was named Professor Emerita of French Studies, the Honourable René Cormier received an honorary Doctorate of Arts and Culture and Jean-Baptiste Sercq received an honorary Doctorate of Arts.



Geneviève Bouchard, full professor in the School of Psychology, and Pier Jr Morin, professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, were awarded the Université de Moncton’s Prix d’excellence en encadrement. This prize is awarded to professors who have distinguished themselves in recent years through a deep commitment to their students’ education by providing exceptional mentorship. The recognition is accompanied by a cash award of $1,000.



The Governor General’s Gold Medal went to Dominic Guitard from Pointe-Verte, New Brunswick, Master of Arts (Psychology), with an average of 4.3. The Silver Medal was awarded to Aiden Lee of Dieppe, New Brunswick, who graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering, co-op program), with an average of 4.28.



The Université de Moncton also marked the exemplary involvement of two graduates by awarding them the Ordre du mérite Bleu et Or. This student award, the most prestigious given by the university, goes to graduates whose academic performance and extracurricular leadership are extraordinary. This year’s recipients are Myriam Plantin, graduate of the Bachelor of Business Administration program (concentration in Accounting, co-op program), and Andy Couturier, Bachelor of Science (Major in Mathematics).



The valedictorian was Youssef Aboud, originally from Lebanon, who received his Applied Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science degree.



The graduation ceremony on the Shippagan campus was held on May 18, and the ceremony on the Edmundston campus took place on May 19.
