Julien Bois of Université de Pau to Speak at Université de Moncton
Julien Bois is an associate professor in physical activity and sport science and techniques at UPPA. His research focus is the determinants of physical activity and implementation of effective promotion strategies. A former vice-president of the French Society of Sport Psychology from 2011 to 2014 and head of the expert in physical and mental preparation master’s program at UPPA from 2004 to 2015, he is currently representing UPPA on the European project CAPAS-cité. The objective of this Franco-Spanish initiative linking two cities and two universities is to establish a centre for promoting the health benefits of physical activity called the Pyrenean Centre for Improvement and Promotion of Physical Activity for Health.
The project has brought together the cities of Tarbes, France, and Huesca, Spain, and the universities of Pau in France and Zaragoza in Spain. Numerous shared and complementary interventions have been developed on either side of the two countries’ border. The partnership is founded on pooling the two universities’ expertise to undertake scientific validation of pilot physical activity programs. The programs developed are then deployed on a larger scale with logistic support from the participating cities. Dr. Bois’s presentation will provide an overview of the project and two sample programs, “Mouv’ à l’école” and “Mouv’ dans les quartiers,” targeting physical activity in schools and at the community level.
Formed in late 2016, the Momenta research group has to date successfully completed a strategic planning exercise and developed a brand image intended to effectively guide its activities. Momenta is the outcome of a series of initiatives arising from New Brunswick’s Wellness Strategy 2014-2021 and is built on three activity pillars:
• Knowledge: information collection, analysis, synthesis and dissemination
• Action: creation, support and mobilization of wellness initiatives
• Community: bringing together key stakeholders in raising awareness about policy changes affecting youth, schools, adults, workplaces, the elderly and special interest groups
