The Université de Moncton Announces its Cohort for the 2021 Games of La Francophonie

The Université de Moncton this afternoon unveiled its cohort for the 2021 Games of La Francophonie. Coming from across La Francophonie, the students making up this cohort will have the opportunity, as part of their academic careers, to develop their skills while making a valuable contribution to the success of the organization and conduct of the Games to be held in Moncton and Dieppe between July 23 and August 1, 2021. The Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Secretary General of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (IOF), was present for the occasion.

“The Université de Moncton has always had an international perspective and has educated generations of Francophone students from around the world who are now excelling in a number of fields,” said the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Secretary General of the IOF. “This cohort illustrates the commitment by the Université de Moncton and its partners to and for cultural and linguistic diversity.”

A total of 22 students make up the cohort, 16 of whom are from member countries of La Francophonie. These international students will receive a unique scholarship covering their differential fees for the duration of their studies in the Recreation, Sport and Tourism Management program.

“These students will have the opportunity to do their final internship with the Organizing Committee of the 2021 Games of La Francophonie and to work with the committee during the Games,” added Université de Moncton Acting President and Vice-Chancellor Jacques Paul Couturier. “It’s an excellent opportunity for them to put into practice what they have learned at university.”

The Université de Moncton students in this cohort are currently enrolled in their first year of the Bachelor’s of Recreation, Sport and Tourism Management program.

“The National Organizing Committee of the 2021 Games of La Francophonie wishes to highlight the leadership shown by the Université de Moncton in creating the 2021 cohort. This will be both a rich experience for the students in the cohort and a major source of support for the Organizing Committee of the Games,” said Eric Larocque, Executive Director of the National Organizing Committee of the 2021 Games of La Francophonie.

The Université de Moncton and the cities of Moncton and Dieppe will play a key role throughout the organizing process and the Games themselves.

The Université de Moncton will be able to count on financial support from the province of New Brunswick and the National Organizing Committee of the 2021 Games of La Francophonie, which enabled the cohort and the scholarship program to become a reality. The Université also wishes to thank institutional partners of the International Organisation of La Francophonie for their support in showcasing this opportunity on the world stage, that is CONFEMEN (Conférence des ministres de l’Éducation des États et gouvernements de la Francophonie/conference of state and government ministers of Education from La Francophonie), CONFEJES (Conférence des ministres de la Jeunesse et des Sports de la Francophonie/conference of ministers of Youth and Sport from La Francophonie), and CIJF (Comité international des Jeux de la Francophonie/international committee of the Games of La Francophonie).
