Johanne Savoie has been appointed Commissioner of the Université de Moncton by the Board of Governors. Ms. Savoie, who will report directly to the Board of Governors, will be responsible principally for receiving complaints from members of the university community who have exhausted the internal means available to them but continue to believe that their rights have been violated.

“We are pleased to welcome Ms. Savoie, who will hold the new position of Commissioner recently created by the Board of Governors. With the arrival of our new Commissioner, we can establish a service responsible for promoting a respectful environment for work and study. Ms. Savoie’s first day on the job will be today,” said Edith Doucet, Chair of the Board of Governors.

The Université de Moncton is firmly committed to promoting, and to guaranteeing for all members of the university community, an environment for work and study that is both respectful and free from any form of sexual violence. Harassment, bullying, discrimination, abuse of power and sexual violence will not be tolerated on the university campuses.

Ms. Savoie’s role will be to advise members of the university community on matters related to her mandate, to spread awareness among them, and to inform them of the means and options available to them. She will also seek to improve university practises.

She will receive and process complaints of misconduct stemming mainly from the various policies in effect on the Université de Moncton’s three campuses, including the Policy on sexual violence, the Respectful environment for work and study policy, and the Code of conduct for the Université de Moncton university community and procedures concerning violations and complaints.

Before her appointment to the Université de Moncton, Ms. Savoie was Regional Consultant for Human Capital – Medical Sector for the Vitalité Health Network.

She began her career as a human resources management advisor and then a public health manager for Zone 1 B, where she was responsible for managing human, financial and material resources, training staff, and delivering and assessing programs and services. She has worked in human resources management for over 20 years, more than 10 of which were in various managerial and supervisory roles.

During her career, she has coached many managers in handling labour relations cases, managed a number of grievances, prepared them for arbitration, and led several investigations into harassment and other complaints. She has also worked on various aspects of recruitment, conflict management, workforce skills development, organizational development, preparation and enforcement of policies and implementation of professional development programs.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial relations from the Université du Québec en Outaouais, as well as a post-graduate diploma in training management and a master’s degree in intervention and organizational change from the Université de Sherbrooke.
