Quarterfinal between Aigles-Tigers is anybody’s guess

The 2 of 3 Atlantic University Sport women’s hockey quarterfinal series between the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues (10-10-4=24 points) and the Dalhousie University Tigers (12-12-0=24 points) begins on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Halifax Forum.

Both teams have similar records, each with 24 standing points. The Aigles Bleues are 5-5 in their last ten games, and lost their last one in overtime. Moncton scored 48 goals and allowed 59 with 603 shots on goal in 30 games. Moncton has 18 power-play goals and a penalty kill efficiency of 84 percent.

The Tigers have lost their last three games, and are 4-6 in their last ten. The team registered 61 goals and allowed 71. The players took 622 shots with 19 power-play goals and a penalty kill efficiency of 84. In regular season play, Moncton won 4-3 and 4-2, and Dalhousie took two games 1-0 and 4-2.

“This is a promising series,” stated Moncton coach Denis Ross. “We are looking at two very similar teams. Our special units need to be effective. A full 60-minute effort by all will be needed, and we need to take advantage of our opportunities. I expect very close games. An error could be costly. We did play against the top teams in our last outings, and came out with six of a possible eight points. That will help us in the playoffs. The players need to leave everything on the ice. Speed and physical play is expected on the ice if we compare this to our other games. The players need to apply the things learned during practices.”

Gabriel Forget will get the nod in nets for Moncton. The second game of the series will be Friday evening, at 7 p.m. at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena. A third, if needed, will go on Sunday evening in Halifax.
