Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues (8-10-2=18 points, 5th position) are guaranteed a spot in the playoffs. This weekend, they will host University of Prince Edward Island Panthers (4-9-7=15 points, 6th position) in an Atlantic University Sport women’s hockey game.

The match will be played on Friday at 7 p.m. at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena. All teams have four games left on schedule, and Moncton has a three-point lead on the Panthers. The final standings will determine the quarterfinal match-ups. UPEI has not won in its last five games, and needs a win to assure a playoff spot. Moncton lost its last game.

“We played for .500 last weekend,” Moncton coach Denis Ross said. “It is important for us to get another victory against UPEI, they are right behind us. We also need to get our momentum leading into the playoffs. We have played close games all season. Nothing will be easy. We need to be ready. This week, we practised our plays around the opponent’s net to have a better chance of scoring.”

“We need to score more often to win games,” said defence-woman Dominique Bérubé. “A victory against this team is possible. At this stage in the season, all standing points are important to determine the final matchups. The league is very competitive this season, and most of the games are won by one or two goals. This week, we emphasized our play around the opponent’s net. We need to shoot more, to be more aggressive around the net.”

Gabrielle Forget will get the nod between the pipes. Natacha Ireland and Cassandra Labrie will probably miss the game because of injuries.
