Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues (7-9-2 = 16 points, 5th position) will host Mount Allison University Mounties (3-12-3 = 9 points, 7th place), Friday at 7 p.m. in an Atlantic University Sport women’s hockey game, at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.

The rivalry between the two teams is alive, and this will be the last game between the two teams this season. The Mounties have won two of their three games against the Bleu et Or, Moncton coming on top in the other. The Mounties are seven points behind Moncton, and a win would offer them hope for the playoffs. The Aigles Bleues then travel to Halifax, Sunday for a matchup against the Dalhousie University Tigers (9-9-0 = 18 points, 4th position), at 3:30 p.m. The Aigles Bleues have six games left in the regular schedule.

“These are very important standing points for us,” said Moncton coach Denis Ross. “We have not played well against the Mounties this season, losing 2-1 twice. The scores are close, but we cannot take advantage of our opportunities. We need to find a way to score. We cannot let them score a goal, we do not have a choice at this moment of the season. I am looking for a powerful performance from my players because we gave up our last game to the Tommies. Against Dalhousie, Sunday, they have a two-point lead over us. We cannot lose this one. We need to perform well to give us the momentum needed for the playoffs, with only six games left to play.”

“I know we have had difficulty playing against the Mounties, but none of our games will be easy,” said Katherine Dubuc. “We need to always give our 110% in each game and each shift. We practised play in our defensive zone, this week to better protect our end. This will allow us to play in their zone. Our confidence is coming, but we can play better. All team members must play their role.”

Cassandra Labrie and Natasha Ireland will not play this weekend. Gabrielle Forget will get the nod between the pipes for both games.
