One member of the university community on the Moncton Campus has tuberculosis

The Université de Moncton has learned that one member of the university community on the Moncton campus has been diagnosed with tuberculosis. The Université is collaborating fully with Public Health to ensure the necessary follow-up.

“In general, the risk of infection is low for the university community,” indicated Dr. Yves Léger, Regional Medical Officer of Health. “Our service will conduct the necessary follow up with those at highest risk of having been infected by the patient.”

A member of the Public Health team will advise those who had close relationships with the patient individually of what procedures need to be followed by January 19. The initial contact will be via the Université’s email system (@umoncton.ca), but other means may be used if needed.

Tuberculosis usually appears as a prolonged cough lasting several weeks or months, and is often accompanied by fever, fatigue and/or night sweats. Other symptoms may occasionally accompany the cough, including bloody sputum, weight loss and loss of appetite.
