Volleyball amateurs will get a chance to taste a whole weekend of Atlantic University Sport action as 13 games are on schedule at the CEPS Louis-J.-Robichaud, on the Moncton campus of the Université de Moncton.

The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues play five games in four days, with the first and home opener on Thursday, at 7 p.m., against Memorial University Sea-Hawks. They play Friday, at 7 p.m., against Acadia University Axewomen, and Saturday, at 1:30 p.m., against Dalhousie University Tigers, and in the evening, at 7:30 p.m., against Saint Mary’s University Huskies. They play University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds on Sunday, at 4 p.m.

The six AUS teams will spend the weekend on campus and play each other at various times. This will end the regular schedule for the first semester in the sport.

“We need to win at least three of these games,” said Moncton coach Monette Boudreau-Carroll. “We have not played all teams yet. We should be able to pull through against Memorial, although they beat us in three games, two weeks ago. We need wins to stay in contention. I know we can win against Memorial on our home court. We cannot let the other teams take a big lead in the standings, and then put pressure on our team in the second semester. Playing five games in four games is a lot, too much. We will be tired on Sunday. We have never played that many games in as few days, so we will see what will happen.”

All 2017–2018 players of the Aigles Bleues will be introduced prior to the Thursday game. The six members of Team New Brunswick played on the Bleu et Or team that won the historic bronze medal at the 2017 Canada Games, in Winnipeg, in August, will also be recognized. They are rookie players Bailey Lemieux, Télia Gaudet, Jessie Robichaud and Nicole Jamieson, as well as manager Pauline Cormier, and coach Monette Boudreau-Carroll. Université de Moncton’s president and vice-chancellor, Raymond Théberge, will proceed with the official launching of the home season with team captains Émilie Landry and Christelle Bertin.
