Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues (3-3-0=6 points, 4th position) play two home games this weekend in Atlantic University Sport women’s hockey action at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.

The Bleu et Or will host St. Francis Xavier University X-Women (5-0-1=11 points, 2nd position), Friday evening at 7 p.m. and the Mount Allison University Mounties (0-6-0=0 points, 7th position), Sunday at 2 p.m.

“The X-Women have a strong team with an excellent goaltender,” Moncton coach Denis Ross said. “We will have to define our defensive play. We also worked our hockey sense this week to have a chance at winning. We cannot lie back against these teams. We need to create scoring opportunities. We do have a rivalry against the X-Women and the Mounties. Our wish is to finish top 2, and to get there we need to win against them and the Huskies, presently the top two teams. These are important games. We did blank the Mounties 4-0 on Sunday, but that does not mean anything for this Sunday’s game.”

Third year defense Jennifer Arsenault is looking forward to the two weekend games. “Concentration on our part will be key as well as playing a full 60 minutes and as a unit,” said Arsenault. “We have a nice rivalry with both our opponents. We had very good practices this week and we worked hard together. Our opponents never lay back and want to beat us. We will have to be ready because they will not give us the games. At defense, our role will be to get the puck out of our end and make quick passes to our forwards.”

Gabrielle Forget will get the nod in front of the net on Friday, and Sabrina Lebrun, who registered a shutout against the Mounties, will play Sunday. Katherine Dubuc is the only player on the injured list.
