U de M soccer teams play four games Friday and Saturday

Both Université de Moncton soccer teams will play two games on Friday and Saturday in Atlantic University Sport conference against very different teams.

This will mark the return to action for the Aigles Bleues (3-3-0=9 points, 7th position) and Aigles Bleus (2-4-0=6 points, 9th position) following a two-week break. The opposing teams still have a chance to qualify for the playoffs. All games will be important and should prove exciting.

Friday evening, the Moncton teams travel to Sackville for games against the Mount Allison University Mounties, at 5 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. Saturday at Stade Moncton Stadium, the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds will be the visitors at 3 p.m. and 5:15 p.m.

The women Mounties (1-6-0=3 points, 9th position) and the men Mounties (0-7-0=0 point, 10th position) were blanked 4-0 and 8-0, respectively, by the Bleu et Or, two weeks ago. The Aigles and the women Varsity Reds (0-4-3=3 points, 8th position) and the men Reds (2-3-2=8 points, 7th position) have not played each other this season.

“The games should be very different,” stated Moncton women’s coach, Mehyar Zekaroui. “Friday will be a game that we need to win to confirm our previous victory against the Mounties. We wish to score goals in the least amount of time to rest some players for Saturday’s game. We will be playing two games in less than 24 hours. Saturday, we have not yet seen the Reds on the field. This team is still in the hunt for a playoff spot, like us. I know they will play hard and we must be ready.”

According to men’s Aigles coach, Florian Ntima Nsiemi, “our planning included the much-needed break and we are ready mentally and physically. We cannot fall in the Mounties trap and we must be in shape for Saturday. Our 8-0 win was a confidence booster, but we cannot be overconfident in both games. The Reds are more in our range.”

The public is invited to the Saturday games at Stade Moncton Stadium. The games may also be seen on AUStv.ca.
