The Université de Moncton women and men teams will host two of the best Atlantic University Sport soccer teams, Saturday and Sunday at Stade Moncton Stadium.

The St. Francis Xavier University X-Women and X-Men and the Cap-Breton University Capers will visit the Bleu et Or teams Saturday and Sunday respectively, at 1 p.m. for the women and 3:15 p.m. for the men both days.

The X-Women won both games they played last weekend while the Capers were also in the win column in their lone game, same as the Aigles Bleues.

“We are playing two important games this weekend,” said coach Mehyar Zekaroui. “We are playing last season’s champions and team that has been in the top 2 or 3 for the last 15 seasons. Our first game opened our eyes and we know we are facing some challenges. We adjusted our play this week and we have a plan in place.”

Veteran player and captain Renée Gauvin says the team will be ready for the challenges ahead. “We did encounter difficulties in the past, but this team is readier for these games,” Gauvin said. “With the effort of our last four weeks, we are ready for any team. We have a team that can score with a better offensive compared to the last seasons when we put the emphasis on the defensive aspect. ”

The X-Men are 2-0 and did not allow any score while the Capers won their only game. The Aigles Bleus lost their home opener.

Coach Florian Ntima Nsiemi wants to see a better prepared team on the field. “We did look at the video of our last game and identified where we were weak and what to improve,” he said. “I will send more players on the field. I am looking for better plays in front of the opposing net. We were dominant last weekend, but we were not efficient and we need to correct that. These teams are top 10 in Canada, StFX has a similar system as ours with a more physical game. It should be a great game. I will have to find the resources needed to counter the Capers, a top 5 team in Canada.”

“We need to forget last Sunday’s game, the season is still young,” added player Alex Laperrière. “We want to get up in the standings and we are not happy with last week’s results. We need to play better against these two top teams. Concentration for 90 minutes is a must. We also need to take advantage of scoring plays.”

The public is invited to attend all games this weekend. You may also watch the games at AUStv.ca.
