14 U de M athletes nominated for its’ annual sport awards banquet

There are 14 student-athletes in nomination for the awards at the annual banquet of the Moncton campus athletes that represented Université de Moncton during the 2016-2017 Atlantic University Sport season, to be honored on Thursday, April 6th, at the Delta Beauséjour Hotel in Moncton.

This year’s nominees for the male athlete-of-the-year award are Jean-François Plante, Sherbrooke, Quebec, hockey; Alain Doucet, Dieppe, in track and field; and Jérémie Pellerin, Cocagne, in cross-country.

The five nominees for the women’s athlete-of-the-year title are Carol-Ann MacDonald, Irishtown, track and field/cross-country; Rachelle Lemoine, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, volleyball; Karine Roy, Nigadoo, in hockey; Isabelle Morris, Miramichi in track and field; and Alexandra Maltais, Dieppe, soccer.

A runner, Sébastien LeBlanc, Moncton, track and field; a hockey player, Justin Guénette, Saint-Agathe des-Monts, Quebec; and another runner, Nassim Bousmaha, Sidi Bel Abbes, Algeria, track and field, are nominated for the men’s rookie-of-the-year title.

For the women’s rookie of the year, the choice will be made between Sara-Ève Noël, Allardville, track and field; Natalie Fleming, Moncton, soccer; and Julie Thériault, Campbellton, hockey.

The President’s Award will be presented to an athlete and the most valuable players of each team will also be honoured during the 2016-2017 season wrap-up. The banquet will also be the occasion to recognize the coach of the year, the Prix de reconnaissance, the Prix d’excellence sportive and the AUS James Bayer Award recipient.
