Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues added three rookies for the next 2017-2018 Atlantic University Sport women’s volleyball season.

Coach Monette Boudreau-Carroll has been recruiting for the next season and is happy that Jessie Robichaud, of Lagacéville, Bailey Lemieux, of Fredericton, and Nikki Jamieson, of New Maryland, have signed a letter of agreement to play with her team.

Jessie Robichaud, 17, will pursue criminology studies. A grade 12 student at the Centre scolaire la Fontaine, in Néguac, she has been playing the sport for six years. She has played for several provincial teams and is presently a candidate for the 2017 Winnipeg Canada Summer Games team. ‘’I was looking to get a chance to continue playing at a high caliber and the university is offering me that chance,’’ said Robichaud. ‘’I have attended a few AUS games and I enjoyed the intensity, the environment and the high caliber. I am looking forward to this experience and to better my skills. I enjoy playing libero because I like moving around on the court and play everywhere.’’ Robichaud measures 5 feet 4 inches and played for the Dynamites of Tracadie.

Bailey Lemieux, 18, will study in psychology and is a grade 12 student at Fredericton High. She has been playing for six years and plays with the NB Canada Games team. A centreman, she was looking for a university with smaller class size and the Université de Moncton met her needs in both class size and volleyball. ‘’I have attended many university caliber games over the years and what impressed me was the speed of play by the Aigles Bleues,’’ Lemieux said. ’’I am small (5 feet 11 inches) for a centreman, so I must adjust with my speed and my jumps. Volleyball enables me to forget the everyday routine and I use it to destress.’’ Lemieux is a member of the 2017 NB Canada Games team and was the Spartans captain.

Nikki Jamieson, 17, plays off-side and will study in sciences. A Fredericton High grade 12 student, she has been involved in the sport for seven years. She played with the Spartans and with the NB Canada Games Team. ‘’I am left handed, so playing off-side is great for me on the attack,’’ said Jamieson. ‘’I have come to know and appreciate Monette with the Canada Games team and I like her approach. Being an Anglophone, I want to study in French. My priority is to improve my skills and play the highest level of volleyball possible. I am a very competitive player and I am happy when I help my team win a game. It is a great feeling knowing you worked hard for the win.’’ Jamieson is 5 feet 7 inches tall.

“I am happy to have recruited these three caliber players for next season, ‘’ commented coach Boudreau-Carroll. ‘’Five of the present players will not be back next season. I am coaching these girls on the Canada Games team and I look forward to having them on the courts come September for the Aigles Bleues.’’ Rachelle Lemoine, Alyssa Turenne, Catherine Guitard, Judith Desjardins and Kristina Cyr will not return next season.
