Université de Moncton will be represented by two athletes at the U SPORTS Track and Field Championships, in Edmonton, Alberta, on Thursday and Friday.

Alain Doucet, of Dieppe, in heptathlon and Isabelle Morris, of Miramichi, in pentathlon, will compete under the eyes of coach Steve LeBlanc.

"Both are ranked 12th in Canada in their event," stated LeBlanc. "I expect Alain will finish with 4,500 points (personal record is 4370 pts) and finish in top-10. As for Isabelle, she should be able to accumulate 3,100 points (her record is 3,026) and be in the top-10. They will gather valuable national experience in their first Canadian championship."

"I will do my best not to finish last," Alain Doucet said. "I am going to learn, live the first-time experience and meet people. I also wish to better my personal best in all seven events, again. I realize the caliber will be strong. I will offer my best and have fun at the same time." Doucet will have four events on Thursday and three on Friday. He will be in 60m, high and long jumps, shot put, pole vault, 1000m and 60mh. He captured the gold medal in this event at the AUS last week.

In pentathlon, Isabelle Morris was second at the AUS meet for the silver medal. "It will be a great experience for me," Morris said. "I will attempt to better my performances in all events and do my best. Several top athletes will attend and I will learn from them to lift my standards for next season. I was surprised to qualify this year because I added more than 400 points to my total, at the AUS. I did much better than I had expected. I will be nervous, but once on the field, things will go great." Her five events, on Thursday, include 60mh, 800m, high and long jumps and shot put.
