Bernard Lord and Camille Thériault to Co-Chair the Evolution Fundraising Campaign of the Université de Moncton

Both graduates from the Université de Moncton and former premiers of New Brunswick, Bernard Lord and Camille Thériault have accepted to co-chair the Evolution Fundraising Campaign, a major fundraising effort at the Université de Moncton.

“We feel privileged to be able to count on such distinguished alumni as Bernard Lord and Camille Thériault to lead our fundraising campaign,” said Université de Moncton president and vice-chancellor Raymond Théberge. “They have impressive backgrounds and they hold the Université de Moncton close to their heart. They wish to give back to their alma mater. Their support will be very important to the campaign.”

The goal of the Evolution campaign is to raise $50 million dollars to develop five priority projects that will lead to excellence in in student experience and excellence in research and development. These are the two broad areas of focus of the campaign.

The targeted projects are: the enhancement of the Scholarship and Bursary Program, the updating of equipment and facilities of the three campuses, the creation of a Hub of Excellence in Acadian Studies and of a Hub of Excellence in Environmental Science and the construction of the New Brunswick Centre for Precision Medicine.

Bernard Lord
Bernard Lord acquired a solid experience in the public and private sectors from his various roles spanning more than twenty years. He is the CEO at Medavie since September 1st, 2016. Most recently, he was president and CEO of the Canadian Wireless Telecommunication Association of Canada and was chair of the Mobile Giving Foundation Canada. He also serves as chair of the Ontario Power Generation and is a former director of Medavie Blue Cross.

He worked with several corporations and non-profit organizations. He was senior counsel with the law firm McCarthy Tétrault (2007-2008). He was a special advisor to the McGill University Health Centre’s Institute for Strategic Analysis and Innovation (2007-2012) and a North American advisor to Alexander Proudfoot (2009-2015).

Bernard Lord became one of Canada’s youngest premiers in 1999. His majority government was re-elected in 2003 and he served as Premier of New Brunswick until October 2006. He was elected four times as a Member of the New Brunswick Legislative Assembly.

In 2000, he was named Grand Officer of the Order of La Pleiade by the International Association of French-Speaking Parliamentarians. He also was granted honorary doctorate degrees by the University of New Brunswick, the Université de Moncton and Saint Thomas University. He is a member of the Order of New Brunswick. In 2000, he was awarded the Alumni Order of Merit by the Université de Moncton.

He was admitted to the New Brunswick Law Society in 1993 and was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2011. He continues to be a member of the NB Law Society and the Canadian Bar Association.

Camille H. Thériault
Camille H. Thériault has great expertise in public management, where he worked for over a decade. Premier of New Brunswick from 1998 to 1999, he previously was minister of three departments.

Mr. Thériault was also head of the Canadian Transportation Accident Investigation and Safety Board. He was a major intervener in terms of security. Along with his national and international counterparts, he coordinated the security changes required as a result of the events of September 11, 2001.

In addition to this significant contribution to public administration, Mr. Thériault has considerable expertise in the fields of economics and finance. He was general manager of the Kent Industrial Commission and vice-president of the United Maritime Fishermen Cooperative.

Since 2004, he is president and CEO of UNI Financial Cooperation, the largest Acadian financial institution. In the midst of the current challenges, he is among the decision makers of New Brunswick. He is renowned for his leadership, his optimism and his ability to build on human capital. In 2013 and again in 2009, he was named one of the top CEOs in Atlantic Canada by the Atlantic Business Magazine.

He was awarded the Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012 and the Canadian Cooperative Order of Merit in 2011. In 2008, the Université de Moncton granted him an honorary doctorate in business administration. Previously, he received the Alumni Order of Merit from the Université de Moncton and the Paul Harris award from the Rotary Club of Bouctouche.
