U de M cross country athletes in Fredericton

Université de Moncton athletes will take part in one the most important cross country races leading to the Atlantic University Sport championship, at the end of the month.

The St. Thomas and New Brunswick universities of the capital city will host the competition that also involves teams from a number of Quebec universities.

‘’Our runners will be in one of the most important races this season,’’ coach Jean-Marc Doiron said. ‘’There will be a number of top Quebec runners and the competition will be vivid. I expect to have a full team in the women category, including our newest member, Sylvie Cormier, completing a masters on our campus. She has the potential of being our fourth runner and that could help us beat out Acadia University, a team that has really progressed this season.’’ The women cover 6 km.

The main objective for the men will be to push their limits against new runners in the 8 km distance. ‘’The fact of running against new athletes is an incentive to push your limit and attain a new level,’’ Doiron added. ‘’I expect the men will be able to do that.’’

The Moncton campus male team is composed of Nassim Bousmaha, Raphaël Choquette, Samuel LeBlanc, Vincent Leclair, Jérémie Pellerin, François Pelletier, Jean-Luc Richard, Daniel Saucier, Ryan Smallwood and Bryan Thomas. Magalie Babineau, Caroline Bujold, Sylvie Cormier, Sandra Durand, Kamylle Frenette, Lindsay Gauvin, Amy Lynn Grant, Josiane Guay, Roxann Guérette, Émilie Guthrie, Carol-Ann MacDonald, Alexis Matthew, Marie-Christine Noël, Pascale Richard, Vanessa Rowe, Danielle Schofield and Fanny Tournay compose the female group.
