Honours and distinctions
Honoris causa doctorate
The
honoris causa
doctorate is the highest distinction granted by the
Université de Moncton. The recipient of this honorary degree must excel
or have excelled in one of the major areas of human activity: science,
literature, culture, society, politics, economics, business, finance, industry,
etc. Exceptional contribution is characterized by its longevity and impact.
At the convocation ceremony held May 21, 2011, on the Moncton
Campus, the university conferred an honorary doctorate in business
administration upon entrepreneur and philanthropist James D. Irving, as
well as an honorary doctorate in music upon world-renowned Acadian
soprano Suzie LeBlanc.
Excellence scholarships named for Roméo LeBlanc
The Université de Moncton’s excellence scholarships have been renamed
the Bourses d’excellence Roméo-LeBlanc in honour of the first Acadian
to be appointed governor general of Canada and a former
chancellor of our institution.
Each year, the university awards a renewable excellence scholarship
to a student who obtains the highest overall average in their school in
grade 11 and the first semester of grade 12. The scholarship – the most
prestigious offered – is awarded to a student from each
French-language high school in Atlantic Canada who has registered
for the first time in the first year of an undergraduate program at one
of the Université de Moncton’s three campuses. One scholarship is also
offered to a student from an English-language school in Atlantic Canada
who obtains the highest average from among all English-language
schools. Approximately 35 scholarships are awarded annually and are
provided for each year of an undergraduate degree for a total value
of up to $20,000 over five years.
The honoris causa
doctorate is the highest
