Patrick Lavoie – serving the community
As president of the Edmundston Campus’s student union, Patrick Lavoie
is always ready to lend a hand whether it be by putting his organizational
skills to work or by helping someone in his circle of friends
and colleagues.
The 19-year-old student is in his third year of a multidisciplinary bachelor
of arts degree with concentrations in philosophy, psychology and
sociology. Afterwards, he plans on pursuing a career in commercial law
before he hopes to launch into a political career.
A graduate of Polyvalente Thomas-Albert (high school) in Grand Falls and
a native of the rural community of Saint-André, Patrick has already made
his mark on several fronts.
Patrick knows how to benefit from the richness of those around him.
“This is how I can more efficiently share my knowledge,” he said. “For
me, there’s nothing that sounds more fake than the expression ‘individual
success’. I don’t believe in personal glory. In life, we accomplish nothing
without the support of others. There is definitely strength in numbers!”
“I had the opportunity to meet
politicians and to better appreciate
the vastness of our country.”
An avid swimmer, he is a lifeguard at the regional sports complex pool
located on the Edmundston Campus. After having competed in the Grand
Falls area, he now shares his passion with younger people.
In becoming the leader he is today, Patrick relied on the knowledge he
gained through his past activities. He went to the Terry Fox Centre in
Ottawa, where he participated in a Forum for Young Canadians along with
other high school students. “This experience gave me some very valuable
leadership tools,” he said. “I had the opportunity to meet politicians and
to better appreciate the vastness of our country.”
