    Explore, a program for Bursary and non Bursary Students

    The Program
    The program focuses on developing language skills in the areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing at the beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. More complex grammar and vocabulary are introduced at each level. Emphasis is placed on social interactions and communication skills as well as an awareness of Acadian culture through its literature, traditions, music and art throughout the program.
    Oral communication plays a very important role in the classroom, workshops and socio-cultural activities. The classroom setting will provide ample opportunities to interact and share opinions on various topics. You will gain confidence in communicating in everyday situations as well as in other settings requiring more complex language skills.
    Organized activities are scheduled weekly, including formal instruction, workshops and socio-cultural activities, some of which take place on weekends.


    Who Attends the Program?
    The program is designed specifically for students and adults wishing to enhance their skills, enabling them to interact in everyday social situations requiring a higher level of French competence as well as for those wishing to enhance their reading and writing skills through Acadian literature and current topics.
    A Customized Program that Fits your Educational Needs
    This innovative French learning program focuses on individual needs while helping you to attain results quickly. You will be expected to engage fully in French in a variety of subjects, by being capable of applying grammatical rules, identifying main themes in newspaper articles, magazines, writing more effectively and clearly through complex sentence structures and communicating orally with confidence in a variety of social situations. Through this program you will also gain a greater understanding of the Acadian culture in a Canadian context through its literature, music, and history. At the end of the program, your level of competency as well as your level of confidence will significantly improve.


    ExploreWhat to Expect?
    Formal instruction is held every morning from Monday to Friday. Workshops and socio-cultural activities take place in the afternoons and evenings. Excursions to different regions and attractions of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island are organized on weekends. Some activities are optional and may require additional expenses.

    Workshops will focus on topics such as Acadian culture and society, French in the workplace, conversation and many more. Social activities will include performances featuring Acadian artists, theatre and music, viewing of films (Acadian, Québécois and French) and other activities


    Placement Test
    You will complete a placement test upon your arrival to assure that you are placed in one of our five competency levels.


    Certificate of Attendance
    You will receive a certificate of attendance upon successfully completing all requirements of the five weeks intensive immersion program.

    The Pledge Explore
    In order to fully benefit from the program, students are expected to use French exclusively during their stay. This will be further explained in the information package that you will receive before the program starts.


    Explore Program
    The university also accepts bursary students through the Explore program. The Explore program is funded by Heritage Canada and is administrated by provincial coordinators. The program offers bursaries to students who wish to improve their competencies in French. For bursary students, Explore offers a bursary covering tuition fees for the course, instructional materials, meals, and accommodation.

    Courses
    Students may receive six university credits for the program. Some Canadian universities, depending upon the level of achievement, may recognize those credits. Those interested in obtaining university equivalencies must make the necessary arrangements with the designated universities.
    Attendance to all classes and workshops, and the use of French only for the duration of the program is mandatory.

    Housing Accommodations

    Proof of Medical Insurance
    All students are required to provide proof of medical coverage before their arrival on campus. A photocopy of the document must be included with the application form.


    Application Deadline
    All applications for the program should be received by June 10th, 2011.
